I have officially been “doing Circadian Rhythm” for about 16 months. At the beginning, I had absolutely no tools. I just concentrated on watching the daily sunrise and staying off my phone screen as much as possible after it got dark. I told myself I wasn’t going to buy blue blockers in particular unless this actually worked. Well, guess what? It worked, so I took the plunge and bought some blue blockers. And that’s where we begin with the very intentional purchases I made throughout the last year and a half to support my circadian rhythm and natural healing journey.
I wanted to buy blue blockers right away, but I told myself I would hold off and see if all the hype about sunrise was actually true. Well, it was. Within a week, my entire sleep cycle had changed. I was falling asleep easily, waking up rested, and had more energy throughout the day. “This is insane!” I thought. My first pair of blue blockers were so ugly, but they got the job done.
All blue blockers are not created equal. You want to get blockers that have passed the test of actually blocking blue light. Unfortunately, you get all kinds of scams and “cheap-ies” out there that want to make a buck on a product that does no good for you. Since I don’t have a fancy tester myself, I’ve just stuck with the brands the Circadian experts recommend for optimal circadian rhythm support.
For low-end, inexpensive glasses, you want to go with the brand Spectra 479. You can find these on Amazon. They are ugly, but they get the job done. Someday I’d love to upgrade, but these are what I use, and they have been perfect. I went with the daytime/nighttime clip-on set so I could have both orange and yellow blockers, and I have loved both.
The experts also recommend two brands called Viva Rays and RA Optics. Both of these brands offer stylish glasses that can even include a prescription.
Once I learned and saw first hand the benefit of “embracing the dark.” I wanted to be very careful what lighting we were using when it was completely dark, so I replaced all of our night lights with these more Circadian friendly amber night lights. They offer enough light in the middle of the night to see where you are going, but the amber hue blocks the cortisol spike you would get from normal blue light night lights, enhancing my circadian rhythm.
Around this same time I realized I needed a solution for being up before sunrise, and this personal amber light has done the trick. In the winter, when the sun rises so late, a fireplace or candlelight works beautifully as well, and honestly is so cozy. But sometimes, you need just a little more light. This little circadian friendly light works perfectly, and it’s even enough light to fix hair and put on makeup in the morning while supporting natural healing through proper light exposure.
This was something that I use to try to heal receding gums instead of a costly dentist appointment. I do love this toothbrush. I’ve been using it for probably about 6-8 months or so, and I feel that it does leave my teeth nice and clean, however, I’m not noticing any significant improvement in my gums. So the verdict is still out on its natural healing potential.
It’s best not to be on a screen before sunrise or after sunset, but sometimes, it just can’t be helped. Thankfully, our devices have a place in settings where you can adjust the screen brightness and temperature. I keep mine on red, and turn the brightness all the way down when it’s dark outside. And I always, ALWAYS wear my blue blockers with a screen after dark to protect my circadian rhythm.
One of the biggest deficiencies we humans face is MINERALS because it is very much lacking in our food, especially if you are eating a processed diet. Therefore, we MUST supplement in order to be healthy. But who wants to spend a ton of money on minerals when celtic salt is the perfect answer?! We like using Baja Gold Mineral Salt because it has the highest mineral content of all the salts out there and is recommended by both Barbara O’Neill and Gary Brecka, people I trust when it comes to learning about cellular health and natural healing.
Magnesium is a specific mineral that we are especially lacking in. The salt mentioned above has some magnesium, but we need even more to maintain healthy levels. I love getting my magnesium from the company Triquetra. Their supplements are whole food sourced, and the only ones I can actually FEEL working in my body. (As I’ve mentioned in other posts, their probiotic, Flora Biome, has completely healed my gut, and helped me have regular bowel movements after struggling with that most of my life!!!) This supports both my circadian rhythm and natural healing.
You can use this link for a 15% off coupon for Triquetra.
I take Magnesium baths almost daily throughout the winter. Salt baths are excellent for our health from detoxing to promoting good sleep, this bath salt comes greatly recommended by circadian professionals and is my go-to for natural healing and circadian rhythm alignment.
(If you’re interested in learning more about grounding, you can go on YouTube and find several free documentaries. Grounding boosts the natural healing process and is excellent for our hormones and cellular health. It has been a big tool in my healing journey. As with any natural healing tool, please come to this topic biblically grounded so you can easily weed through the New Age junk.)
About a year into my Circadian journey, I asked my husband if I could order an aura ring for my birthday, but when I got the size kit in the mail, I realized I had no desire to wear such a huge ring, so I got my money back and ordered some grounding shoes instead. And these have proven to be so convenient. Grounding is amazing! But we are in the woods, and between the rocky river soil, acorns, and all the other fun pokey things on the ground, I haven’t been interested in going barefoot in our yard too much. However, my shoes allow me to get the barefoot benefits anytime I’m outside, and I LOVE IT! You can feel the difference! I have sneakers from this company. I’d recommend waiting for a sale. They are pricey!
And my Earth Runners are the same. I hadn’t had the opportunity to wear them until our recent missions trip to Belize, and they were PERFECT in every sense of the word. I LOVE THEM so much!!!
My latest purchase was a grounding mat. I was gifted one from Amazon, but it didn’t work, so we returned it and I put that money toward a more expensive “real” one that I had had my eye on. Grounding mats are the same bear as the blue light glasses. You can go on Amazon or eBay and order “cheap-ies” that are made in China and will do absolutely nothing for you. So I did ton of research, and once again, went with the company that the Circadian experts recommended.
Intuition Physician is the recommended company. Everything is hand made here in the states and is extremely high quality. It’s made after you purchase, so it takes several weeks to actually receive your order, but let me tell you…IT IS WORTH THE WAIT! I felt immediate improvement in my sleep within a week, and will not sleep without it. It even came with us on our recent trip to Belize! This mat enhances my circadian rhythm and natural healing.
Please do not feel that you have run and buy all of these different things. You can literally start your healing journey with just going barefoot, watching sunrise and staying off screens when it’s dark. It has taken me almost a year and half to collect all of these different items. As you move forward into your healing journey, you will find that different tools may be worth the investment just like they have for us in supporting circadian rhythm and natural healing.
Whether you decide to purchase these things or not, I wanted to put them all in place for easy finding. I also want to add that all of the Amazon links are in one place on my Amazon storefront. You can find all of my Circadian Tools from Amazon here.
