My Three All-Time Favorite Cookie Recipes

September 14, 2022

I have this saying. It’s “DO THE FEW.” And I apply it to almost every area of my life, and it is life changing really. Basically it means to find the few things you love and stick to those things. So when it comes to baking cookies, I’ve found the few recipes that our family loves, mastered them, and when I’m itching to bake cookies, these are the recipes I go to. Of course, we do go outside of this box for holidays and special occasions. What’s Christmas without Sugar cookies?!

Cookies are one of my favorite things for “hospitality” treats because they are easy to whip up and they freeze well which sometimes completely eliminates the need to even whip up if there are some in your freezer already!

Top Tips for Making Cookies

  • Refrigerate dough for at least two hours or overnight.
Dough that is cold for some reason makes really thick cookies. You may want to form dough into balls before refrigerating as dough can be tough to work with once refrigerated.
  • Store some of those dough balls in the freezer for a quick and easy treat.
I love to make a double batch of dough, form them into balls, and then freeze them. Then when company comes over, all you have to do is preheat the oven, grab a few of those cookie dough balls out of the freezer and bake! Wallah…fresh, warm, straight-out-of-the-oven cookies in just a few minutes!
  • Always go on the lower end of the bake time
Take the cookies out of the oven before the they are completely baked through. When you take them out of the oven, allow them to cool just a bit on the pan (enough so that they don’t fall apart when transferring) before moving to a cooling rack or foil. This method always results in really moist cookies!

***Obviously oven temps and elevation will make a difference in how your cookies turn out, so keep that in mind! 🙂

Without further ado, here are my all-time favorite cookie recipes.

1. Lemon Sugar Cookie

These are by far my number one cookies to make for parties…ESPECIALLY in the spring and summer. The plate typically comes home empty because they are SO GOOD.

2. Big Soft Oatmeal Cookies

These are the best oatmeal cookies I’ve ever had. Like bakery style…maybe even better??? This one is a go-to for sack lunches for us. One personal preference…we omit the cinnamon.
