Taking place during the English Civil War, four wealthy siblings escape an estate fire and take up residence in the New Forest. Through wit and the help of an old friend of the family, they learn how to survive on what the woods provide for them. The book has a slow start, but hang tight, it gets good. It's one of those that will spark all kinds of imaginative play for your children. I congratulate the author for writing a book with such high morals including siblings showing great care and campassion for one another, their friends and acquaintances as well as a great love for their country. The book covers several years so you are able to watch the four children "come of age," and watch them learn many life lessons and decision-making skills. It's just an overall EXCELLENT read. I'd recommend the audio version over reading it aloud. Good for ages 8+
