I am so, so thankful for comments and critiques like this because they really make me dig deep and prayerfully consider what is TRUTH and what is not.
As with any topic, we must start with the definition. If we define something differently, then we’re comparing apples and oranges and can hardly have a meaningful conversation because we’re not on the same page.
The word “grounding” has been co-opted by New Agers to mean something far more than just going outside barefoot. Maybe I should just say, “going outside in bare feet.”
However, I hope I’m outspoken enough about where I stand biblically that readers would automatically know the “grounding” I’m speaking of is simply going outside barefoot (or in barefoot shoes) and enjoying God’s creation for physical well-being and health—not some weird spiritual mysticism practice. I’m not talking about meditating. I’m not talking about centering. I’m not talking about finding a portal and opening my mind up to devils. Yikes! I’m simply talking about going outside barefoot. That’s it!
I think I may coin a new term: BAREFOOTING, so we Christians can have our own word!
I digress.
Grounding, when associated with universalism, connection, meditation, centering, use of crystals and other New Age practices IS dangerous for sure and should be stayed far away from!
Going outside barefoot, or in leather thongs or shoes, is not a New Age idea since it has been around since the beginning of earth and has only been recently removed with the invention of rubber soled shoes in the 1960’s. Going barefoot, or wearing “grounding shoes,” is simply going back to what used to be.
If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know I ALWAYS caution about experts on the topic of Circadian Rhythm (which includes things like watching our light environment, grounding, cold therapy, etc.) veering into mysticism, New Age foolishness, and the Divine Feminine. This is literally the whole reason I talk about my health so openly and even wrote an e-guide called A Christian Woman’s Guide to Health—because someone needs to weed through all the garbage the world has to offer and provide a biblical perspective! (Is there even such a thing? I think so!)
I am SO SICK of the world taking God’s beautiful goodness and destroying it or redefining it! SICK. OF. IT! It’s around every single corner—from the beauty of physical intimacy created for pleasure in marriage to the stunning rainbow in an overcast sky! The heavens declare the glory of God, but Satan says, “No! I want all the glory!”
Are you a Christian? Or are you a Christian? Don’t you know by now that Satan’s entire agenda is to corrupt, destroy, and steal what God has made good and beautiful? Don’t you know that his aim is to take TRUTH, add a little deception to it, and use it to deceive, destroy, and kill? Haven’t you figured out yet that the glorious beauty of God’s design has been usurped by Satan to steal the glory of our God Almighty and draw worship to himself instead? This has been the story since the beginning of creation: “Yea, hath God said?!”
Christians! Let’s claim back His goodness… and enjoy it! PLEASE!
Every good gift is from above! If you find healing in God’s creation (no mysticism needed)—whether it’s eating whole foods that actually grew in a garden, watching the sunrise every day, or walking on the ground barefoot—ALL GLORY TO GOD!
God has given us tools for healing in His creation. I am a walking testament to that. We poured thousands and thousands of dollars into doctors. I’ve said many times that I felt like the woman with the issue of blood in the Bible—so much money spent on so many doctors, and no answers! All we could turn to was prayer.
And God sent another Christian woman to me to tell me about Circadian Rhythm…and grounding…and sunrise…and all that it entails.
And He healed me—no New Age weirdness required.
Romans 1 sums it up perfectly.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, WHO HOLD THE TRUTH IN UNRIGHTEOUSNESS; Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image (an idol) made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things…Who changed the truth of God into a lie, AND WORSHIPPED AND SERVED THE CREATURE MORE THAN THE CREATOR, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”
There’s that side of the coin: worship the creature, turn the earth (and grounding), the sun, and our own bodies into idols, and give glory to the devil, who cunningly twists the earth and all that is in it into an avenue of black magic and idol worship (hello, witch doctors, Buddhism, Hinduism, Eastern Mysticism, and other religions). Oh, they recognize there’s “a god,” all right, but the devil inserts himself in that position and leads them down a path of deception, destruction, and death.
OR we can come to this conversation and say with David in Psalm 104—a whole chapter about God’s stunning, magnificent creation—
“Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.”
Read this entire chapter to find multiple verses about God’s creation including, “…the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. He causes grass to grow for the cattle and herb for the service of man.”
He concludes his point. “O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.“
“These wait all upon thee…thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good…thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. The glory of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works. I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. My meditaion of him shall be sweet: I will be glad IN THE LORD.”
God, in His infinite wisdom and great love for His creation (us!), knew that a few thousand years down the line, there would be women struggling with so many hormonal issues with no answers—and with doctors who want to throw medicine at them and say, “Sorry, you’ll be stuck with this hormone condition for life. There’s no known cure.” He knew that! And He created a solution—a solution so simple that we fail to acknowledge God would do something like that for us, and then we tout that those who do it are “trusting in the ground” or “trusting in the sun” to heal instead of God Himself.
Stop letting the devil steal God’s glory! Just let creation be what God made it to be! If the Lord rejoices in His creation, can’t I as well?
You know what our problem is as Christians? We have such a small view of God.
When every plant is a miracle, every single kernel of corn planted in the earth and turned into thousands is a miracle, when every breath is a miracle, when every birth is a miracle, when every cell is a miracle, and every turn of the earth around the sun is a miracle—why is it so hard to believe that He could heal our bodies by looking at His sun or grounding our feet upon His earth?
“No,” we think. “God’s creation can’t really heal because so-and-so said the earth is a portal into scary healing practices that lead to demon possession” (or it’s believed to be “a hoax” by the other half of the naysayers).
Who are we to question what God does or does not do with His creation? (Romans 9:20)
There is such a thing as a spiritual realm. We don’t like to talk about it, but the fact of the matter is, it’s real! The prince of this world, whom we cannot see, will commandeer everything about this beautiful earth, leaving Christians reeling, “But where is God?!?!”
But God is more powerful. Do you believe that? He’s more powerful than death, demons, New Age practitioners, Chinese medicine, and witch doctors.
They took the truth of nature and “held it in unrighteousness,” and they “changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man.” They blinded Christians by hijacking what God made for our good and scared us away by slapping New Age, devilish language around it, sprinkling in some mystic religion, and saying, in essence, “This is ours!”
But God says, “The earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” Psalm 24:1
“The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.” Psalm 95:5
Genesis chapter 1 sums it up nicely. I’ll just quote the first and the last verses. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”
Job also says, “But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this?”
“Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.” Ecclesiastes 5:9
“Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.” Ecclesiastes 11:7
Can we not claim creation back for the Lord? Can we not trust in His infinite wisdom that He simply created His earth to heal without getting into the weeds of New Age-ism? Can we not have a biblical grounding perspective? Can we trust that, even though the world is corrupted by sin, sickness, sorrow, death, and sadness, there is still goodness to be found in the land of the living? (Psalm 27:13)
We have a responsibility to NOT put our heads in the sand. The reality is that we are sheep in the midst of wolves, and we are called to handle ourselves as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves. What happens when we run into the wolves of evolution and New Age philosophies? What then?
Do we completely ignore creation because someone came up with the idea of a sun god and decided to worship the sun? Or ignore the benefits of the earth because New Age people hijacked it to support their centering practices?
No, we come to the table with wisdom and spiritual discernment, grounded in God’s Word, walking in the Spirit, and living a life saturated in prayer.
Then, and only then, can we “walk in truth.” Because if you are truly walking in Christ, you will not—you cannot—walk in darkness. (John 8:12, Galatians 5:16)
I challenge you to do a Bible study on the earth, on creation, on the beauty, benefit, and goodness of everything God has made. You will be stunned! Remind yourself Who is the owner of this beautiful world we are privileged to live in, and then simply go outside in the sunshine, in your bare feet, and relish the beauty of God’s earth.
As you saturate yourself once again in God’s truth about His beautiful, healing creation, grounded in the truth of God’s Word and seeking to honor and please Him in all that you do, you cannot help but come away from this conversation—especially after you’ve seen healing in your own body—without being in utter awe of God.
I am so passionate about this, as you can tell. I’m not saying my mind will never change, but all I know is that we spent years praying for healing, and God healed me… simply through His creation.
I didn’t fall into mysticism. I didn’t start New Age practices. I don’t believe in the Divine Feminine.
No. I simply applied a biblical perspective to all of the health input I was researching and went outside and watched the sunrise every day—sometimes in bare feet, sometimes in my grounding shoes—and I have healed because of God’s incredible wisdom in how He created His earth to be exactly what we need for our hormones. Take it or leave it. That’s the truth.
Consequently, I have come away from this last year and a half with a stronger faith in my God and more in awe of His infinite wisdom than ever. I am incredibly humbled and so grateful for how much He loves me.
Please, I beg of you, shout at me from the rooftops if I ever start spouting New Age agendas or speaking about centering, mindfulness, or the Divine Feminine. PLEASE! It’s unbiblical!
But at this point, I just simply praise the Lord for what He, through His magnificent creation, has done for my body.
It’s the same as everything—you can fall into the ditch on either side of the road. “Let your moderation be known unto all men.” (Philippians 4:5)
But that’s another topic for another time.
If you’d like a quick intro. into the science and healing benefits of BAREFOOTING, watch this 15-minute documentary called “Down to Earth.” Again, these aren’t Christians, so they don’t speak of God, and there is one instance of “Mother Earth.” But come to this with a biblical world view, and your eyes might be opened to the astounding wisdom of God in everything He made!
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Psalm 19:1-3
“O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.” Psalm 104:24
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
